I have been conducting a personal research on the power of music and how it is being utilized.
I do this with three goals in mind:
- To aid the marginalized, and underserved population to help restore their confidence and give them practical tools for to improve their skill sets like focus, attention, ability to communicate, etc.
- To aid communities and nations that have suffered disasters.
- To build a curriculum for team-building and leadership workshop for schools and corporations.
The research takes me to eye-opening discoveries. Every time, I have the urge to share! I will be sharing some of these encounters via this blog.
United Nations has a Chamber Music Society. Founded in 2016, it consists of professional musicians.
“Through performances by the Society, the passion and intimacy of the chamber music repertoire has the creative power to move audiences and help promote the universal values of the United Nations, such as understanding between civilizations, freedom of expression, and equality of rights.”

It reminds me of a performance I took part in, in November 22nd, 2015. It was right after the multiple terrorist attacks in Paris. Presented by River Oaks Chamber Orchestra, we performed Messiaen’s “End of Time” Quartet.
We dedicated the performance to “all those who struggle to remain creative in the face of destructive forces.” We felt one with the audience – we found ourselves in tears at the end of the piece. The audience gave us an immediate standing ovation. Some of them were crying, too.
It is one of the performances I will never forget.
Music rocks, and unites us together.
