Today, Da Camera of Houston Young Artists Program hosted a workshop for us. It was about how non-profit art organizations are managed, how they raise funds, etc. They had the workshop at a very nice restaurants, and treated us to very nice cheese, dried fruits and pizza with wine. The subject itself was interesting, and all of the guest speakers were incredibly generous in sharing their experience, and insights. But it was really the nice atmosphere of the place, with candle lights, with all of my good friends around the table that made me feel very good. Also, because all of the guest speakers knew that I was organizing a fundraising events for Japan, they talked about that a lot. It was very helpful.
I also had a really good time preparing a presentation on the structural analysis of Bartok’s Concerto for Orchestra for the orchestration class today. It was especially interesting to compare it to Lutowslawski’s piece by the same title that we just played in our last orchestra concert a week ago (I played the piano part – it is a big part!). I love good music. A project like this makes me really, really happy!
I also got to practice the entire afternoon today, which has not happened in a long time. Practicing calms me down, and grounds me. It is very therapeutic. I do need to do it more often.
I am going to bed early tonight. In the last ten days or so, I have not yet gone to bed before midnight yet, but tonight, I am going to make it happen!
